EPISODE 50

#1. "W" - Seoul-Prime Hotel (evening).

Exterior view of the hotel "Seoul-Prime"... On the top floor...

... we see through the lit windows: Kang Chul's penthouse.

#2. Penthouse (evening).

Yoon So-Hee is drafting a document, at the meeting table.

- (enters) Good evening, will you be staying long?

- Oh? Good evening. Just this to-- !!! (stares at him, surprised)

Fffff.... He vanishes into supernatural dust.

- (aghast) .... !!! (feels strange) ... ?!

She barely has time to see herself transparent and get scared--
Fffff.... In turn, So-Hee disintegrates... annihilated.
KzZzt... The room crackles with colorful interferences, then...

... the penthouse becomes a different sumptuous apartment.

#3. Seoul, General View (evening).

KZzt! KZzt! KZzt!... Buildings crackle with colorful interferences:
¤ The hotel "Seoul-Prime" (replica of "Miracle" hotel) becomes small and circular, "Anubis".

¤ The hospital "Hangook Seongjin" (replica of "Myungsei" hospital) becomes long and flat.
¤ The TV station "W" becomes a different station "TVZ".

#4. "Real World" - Song-Moo's Office (noon).

Oh Sung-Moo is drawing on his tablet, peaceful:
¤ Feminine hands holding a bloodied chainsaw.

#5. Park Road (noon).

The bloody bodies of Ren-Bo and Soo-Bong lie on the asphalt.
The truck driver gets out of his vehicle, panicked.

- Omo, Omo!! Where did they come from?
Why didn't I see them?! AAaaah!!
- (comes rushing) CALL AN AMBULANCE!!

Yeon-Joo is traumatized, but having to treat them calms her. A doctor's reflex.
She kneels near the bodies, checks Ren-Bo's pulse.
Positive, her heart is beating!
She checks her condition, uncertain of the severity.

She checks Soo-Bong's pulse, seeing his abdomen bleeding.
It's serious! His heart isn't beating!!
Rip! She opens Soo-Bong's shirt.

- !! (terrible) Oh no...

A rib sticks out of the belly, dripping with blood.
Other broken ribs compress the abdomen.
Yeon-Joo, mortified, searches where to place her hands on the chest.
She places them carefully, where it minimizes the injury, then...
Dum! Dum! She performs cardiac massage, interspersed with mouth-to-mouth.

#6. Hagal-Dong Park (noon).

Hyo-Joo screams and cries.
Kang Chul, trembling and ravaged, is reviving Su-Ran, when--
On the table, BRRZ! Yeon-Joo's smartphone rings.
Kang Chul, ?!, intrigued upon seeing the caller. (We don't see who.)
He grabs the smartphone.

- (to Hyo-Joo) Wake her up!! (points at Su-Ran)

Kang Chul looks at the scenery simplified by the Narrator, intuition on alert.

: Does he have more chances of detecting me here?

He trots out of the damaged reality zone.
He hides behind a tree and takes the call.

Hyo-Joo stops screaming and just cries, calmed by having something to do.
She takes ice cubes from the cooler and smears them on Su-Ran's face.

Farther away (we don't hear):
Kang Chul listens to the caller, ??!, stunned.

He thinks quickly... struck by a revelation!
He answers insistently, gives important advice.
GzZzt! He flickers, becomes partially transparent.

Su-Ran wakes up and... sees Captain Ryu's corpse.

- (!!) Captain... (pained) No, Captain... (pulls herself together)
What happened after... (remembers) Do-Yoon disappeared?
- (shaken) I don't know, I don't know!!
He shot himself, all of a sudden, for no reason!!
- (comes running back, half translucent)
Quick! We have to help them and get the hell out!! (goes toward the road)
- (panicked seeing him) AAAaahhh!!!
- (appalled) Oh shit... Kang Chul... (runs after him)

#7. Park Road (noon).

- (hangs up his smartphone)
The ambulance will be here in fifteen minutes!
- (Dum! Dum! in the middle of cardiac massage)
Han! Han!... (grimaces) Shit... Han! Han!...
(arrives, distressed seeing Soo-Bong)
- Oh-Oh!! (surprised seeing him translucent)
- (arrives) I know first aid!
I'll do the artificial respiration and check the pulse!
- Han! Yes... Han! He'll have better chances that way.
(concentrates on the cardiac resuscitation, Dum! Dum!)
(kneels, does mouth-to-mouth on Soo-Bong)
- Is... Is he okay? ... Aigoo, Aigoo... they're gonna blame me.
- (arrives, distraught seeing them)
Oh my God... (tears)
- (evaluates Do-Yoon's car and Su-Ran's)
Su-Ran, your car keys!
(throws him her keys, between two breaths)
- (holds the keys out to Hyo-Joo) Hyo-Joo, you have to get out of the story.
You're not important to the Narrator.
If you want to live, get as far away from us as possible.
- (takes the keys without understanding)
I... I... (trembles, grimaces in sadness)

Hyo-Joo understands however that she will die, if she stays.
So reluctantly...
She rushes toward Su-Ran's car!
Clac! She gets in. VrOom! Starts and drives off...

- (finger on Soo-Bong's carotid, beating)
His heart's back!!
- His ribcage has been caved in.
(passes her hand under the body) His spine seems intact.
- And her? (looks at Ren-Bo)

Yeon-Joo checks Ren-Bo and observes:
Minor wounds, except a big purplish hematoma on the head.

- She might have a fractured skull. He protected her from the bulk of the damage.
Fifteen minutes for the ambulance... She'll hold on but NOT HIM!!!
- Su-Ran has to take him to the hospital with Do-Yoon's sports car!
- No!! Impossible to move him.
At least, not onto a back seat, because of the contortions.
- (to the truck driver) What do you have in your truck?
- Nothing! I was going to load up.
- (?!) Show me, QUICK!!
(nods)

Su-Ran and the truck driver go to the back of the truck.
Yeon-Joo can finally see Kang Chul, ... !!, appalled.
He is largely translucent, outlined by lines.
Only the pouch dangling from his neck is strangely material.

The truck driver opens the truck bed.
Su-Ran notices a mechanical step, not lowered.
She hoists herself up and enters... then...
She comes out carrying a wooden pallet.

- (shows the pallet to Yeon-Joo)
Could this help?
- !! (hope) Yes! It's the least risky for moving a body.
- (to the truck driver) Go get the pallet jack!!
- Yes! Yes ma'am!! (rushes to the back of the truck)

Su-Ran sets the pallet next to Soo-Bong.

- Su-Ran, the legs. Chul, under the armpits.

Su-Ran and Kang Chul grab Soo-Bong.
Yeon-Joo presses her hands under his back, to keep him flat.

- On three! 1... 2... 3!!!

They move Soo-Bong onto the pallet without a hitch. A short optimal path.
The truck driver comes back dragging a pallet jack.
Su-Ran takes out her smartphone and calls.
Kang Chul goes to the back of the truck to look for a second pallet.

- I need the medical chopper immediately!
Heading for Hagal-Dong. I'll tell you where to land later.
- (to the truck driver) Transport him to the back.
As gently as if it were a crate of fine crystal glasses.
- (reassured) Yes ma'am. I know my job. Don't worry.

He carefully forks Soo-Bong's pallet with the pallet jack.
Then he pulls it gently toward the truck bed.

Kang Chul comes back with another pallet and sets it next to Ren-Bo.
The truck driver lowers the mechanical step and loads Soo-Bong's pallet.

#8. In the truck (noon).

In the back, Clac! Su-Ran closes the door from the inside.
She looks at the two pallets where the comatose Soo-Bong and Ren-Bo are lying.
She passes her index under their noses and checks that they're breathing.

#9. Park Road (noon).

The truck starts without jolts, the driver conscious of avoiding any shake.
Only Kang Chul and Yeon-Joo are left here.
He examines his translucent hands, afflicted by the speed of his disappearance.

: (looks at Do-Yoon's car)
That would be the fastest, but she doesn't master that car.

He opens the driver's door of his red sports car, without getting in.

- (directive) You drive.
: (overwhelmed with apprehension)
He doesn't want to risk being annihilated while driving.

#10. In Kang Chul's car (early afternoon) + MONTAGE.

C10#1. PRESENT.
Yeon-Joo drives fast, at the height of anxiety.
Kang Chul anxiously scans outside, "Is the Narrator watching us?".

- (worried) I should have stayed in the truck to take care of them.
Su-Ran only has basic skills!

Kang Chul types text on Yeon-Joo's smartphone...

- If the Narrator told the truth, and he surely did, as usual... (quotes)

C10#2. FLASHBACK, Ep49 - Hagal-Dong Park (noon).
- There were too many characters, it weighed down the plot. And it became easy to eliminate, since you're all secondary characters.

C10#3. PRESENT.
- He could eliminate us immediately. Otherwise, he has a reason.
He wants us to know something before we die!
(terribly tormented, remembers...)

C10#4. DREAM, Yeon-Joo - "Imagination".
Do-Yoon vanishes into dust. Next to him, a new person.

- (points his pistol against his own temple)
You're a respectable woman, and I appreciated you, Oh Yeon-Joo.

- (trembles with worry) Captain... Stop... Put that gun away.
- Then why did you make me suicide?

POW! He shoots himself in the head!

C10#5. PRESENT.
: (shakes her head) No, no, don't think about that.
Focus on the present!
- (continues writing on her smartphone) Listen carefully, Oh Yeon-Joo.
This is crucial. After seeing your father, YOU must IMPERATIVELY go to the hospital, to check the health of Soo-Bong and Ren-Bo. ABSOLUTELY!!!
: "You" ... and not "Us"?

Yeon-Joo is desperate that he doesn't envision surviving until then.
She glances at him:
He is more transparent. Only his pouch hanging from his neck is solid.

- (in a sob) Yes... I understand...
Go to the hospital, no matter what...
- The Narrator couldn't appear in the real world.
So, there's only one possible explanation... (quotes)

C10#6. RECALL, Ep49 - Hagal-Dong Park (noon).
- See you in the next episode of... "Lost Reality"!

C10#7. PRESENT.
- ... The real world has become a manhwa, called "Lost Reality".
This manhwa is drawn by an author, from another dimension, since...

C10#8. FLASHBACK, Ep49 - Hagal-Dong Park (noon).
POW! Captain Ryu shoots himself in the head!

C10#9. FLASHBACK, Ep49 - Park Road (noon).
VROOM! A white truck appears and charges at Ren-Bo.

C10#10. PRESENT.
- ... These events happened before the Narrator appeared.
No description frame. They were created by an author allied with the Narrator.
The place where this author lives has become, in a way... The new real world!!
- ... !! (terrifying)

#11. Village Stadium (early afternoon).

WHOP-WHOP-WHOP! A medical chopper takes off from a soccer field, Su-Ran on board.
Two empty bloodied pallets on the grass... and a pallet jack, held by the truck driver.

- (watches the chopper fly away) They didn't even ask for my ID.
Does that mean I'm off the hook? (relieved)

#12. Kang Chul's Car + Gil So-Sun's Apartment (early afternoon).

As Kang Chul types on Yeon-Joo's smartphone:
BRRZ! The smartphone rings, "Mom".

- (picks up) Eomeoni?!
- ?!!
- (panicked, trembling voice) Chul... Your son...
Something terrible is happening to him!!

- (looks at his transparent arm, guesses)
Describe it to me calmly, precisely.

Apartment: Chul-Moo (2 years old) is as if cut in half vertically.
One half of his body is transparent, and the other half is solid.

(worried, doesn't suffer)
- Half of his body is transparent, with lines!!
It's like he was cut in two!!
- ("unusual, but reassuring") Is it stable?
Has it progressed since you noticed it?
- (observes Chul-Moo) I didn't see when it happened...
but it doesn't seem to be changing.
- (silent sigh of relief)
Then don't worry. Yeon-Joo will come soon. (hangs up)
- ... ?!! (frustrated)
- What's going on?!!
- Chul-Moo, but he should be out of danger.

Kang Chul slips the smartphone into Yeon-Joo's bag.
Then he looks at his immaterial arms:
Dust is already dancing inside them! He knows he's doomed.
Yeon-Joo sees it, guts twisted with worry, oppressed by the unavoidable.

#13. Myungsei Hospital Roof (early afternoon).

WHOP-WHOP-WHOP! The helicopter is parked on the roof.
Nearby, two stretchers with IVs out of the chopper:
Ren-Bo, examined by Professor Lee. Soo-Bong, examined by Min-Soo.
Su-Ran waits beside them. The helicopter takes off and leaves.

- Spine intact, but these broken ribs threaten to puncture the heart.
If the cardiac massage had been poorly executed, he wouldn't have survived.
- (on Ren-Bo) It's less pretty than it looks.
She risks neurological aftereffects.
- I know this guy. A nutjob who yelled at me a lot.
Once, he even bit me! His girlfriend is a Cosplay fanatic. (tells)

{FLASHBACK INSERT, Ep19 - Seoul Avenue (morning).}
In front of a shopping center, FLIP! FLAP! Ren-Bo flies in front of Professor Park.

- !!!!
- (panics) It's a very realistic cosplay, there are motors in the back!

- Cosplay? (examines a wing) ... These are real wings!
- (!) Huh?!
- (shows her NIS badge) A military genetic experiment.
Top secret. You'll sign a confidentiality declaration.
- .... ?! (doubts, suspicious)

#14. Sung-Moo's House (early afternoon).

Kang Chul and Yeon-Joo rush into the garden.
They notice the house has changed, back to how it was in the time of W.

- (??) The house?!
- (disintegrating) Quick!! (enters)

#15. Sung-Moo's Office (early afternoon).

(This office is also the bedroom.)

C15#1. PRESENT.
Sung-Moo drinks a glass of whiskey, then sets it down, when--
Vlam! Kang Chul and Yeon-Joo burst in sweeping the door.

- Dad!!! (bewildered, happy)

- Ah, here you are.
(?!, sees Kang Chul) What's with him? Who is this--
- ("incredible") Is it really you?!
How? Where were you after the end of "W"?
- "W"? What are you talking about?
- Your manhwa, "W"!!!
(?, sees no drawings of W here, then looks at the wall)

Kang Chul also looks at the manhwa covers hanging on the wall.
The covers, once of "W", have become those of a manhwa called "Z"!
"Z" features a heroine armed with a chainsaw and a sawed-off shotgun.
She fights the zombie hordes of a post-apocalyptic future. (style "Resident Evil")

Kang Chul, at the height of pathos, and as if knowing the truth triggers it...

- (... turns to dust) Yeon-Joo.
- (looks at him) !!!!! (ultimate affliction)
- I loved you, once. (starts to disintegrate)
- (shudders with emotion) ..... !!!
("no, no, nooo", without being able to scream it)

Powerless facing his end, Kang Chul closes his eyes to find peace at the ultimate moment.

He clutches the pouch with the talisman at his neck, recollects himself, thinking of Mi-Ra...

C15#2. RECALL - "Imagination".
Kang Chul and Mi-Ra cuddle tenderly on the sofa. Loving gazes.

- I want to stay here with you, forever. If we went back to the real world, we'd grow old in a flash, compared to the time spent here.
- I think it doesn't depend on time or life, but on existence.
So, even old, love doesn't disappear. It remains even after death.
- One of us will die first, but wait for the other in the beyond?
And we'll love each other in that beyond like here?
- Yes, because everything that has existed reaches that beyond.
- (tender smile) I love you.
- (tender smile) I love you too.

C15#3. PRESENT.
: (infinite sadness) In the end, neither of us will have existed.
We'll never find each other again, even in the beyond.

A last tear runs down Kang Chul's erased cheek and...

- .... !!! (traumatized with grief)

FFfffff...... He vanishes... eliminated from existence... ANNIHILATED!!!

Flop! His pouch with the talisman falls to the ground.
The last supernatural dusts fade. Kang Chul is no more.

- (screams in mourning) RAAhhAAhhh, NOOoo!!! ArAhAhh... Boo hoo hoo...
Agh-AGH... Dad, what happened?! Why "Z"?!! DAD?!!!
- Dad?
- ???! ("that strange tone")
(smiles, Zitsh!, eyes becoming two luminous yellow lozenges)

- !!!! (icy shock)
- (cavernous voice, similar to the Narrator's, but without echo)
Are you unable to recognize one of my characters, Oh Yeon-Joo?
- (cold terror) ...... !!!!
- Oh Sung-Moo: a character I no longer need, who should have remained faceless.
(leans to grab something at his feet) I'll remedy that.

Sung-Moo raises his head, opens his mouth wide, krk... to the point of breaking his jaw.
He lifts a 5-liter plastic jerrycan, already open, brings it above his head...

- ... ?!! (has time to see, written on the jerrycan...)

... a label "H2SO4, 98%", ultra-concentrated sulfuric acid!
ShLaflFLflFLflfl... Sung-Moo empties the jerrycan on his head and into his mouth!!
SKRIIISHHH... The flesh boils, melts like wax, goes up in smoke.
The face is ravaged, the hair crackles, the skullcap slides, exposing the bones!!

- .... !!! (surprised with horror, backs against the wall)

FREEZ... The abominable acid liquefaction freezes in time...

- ..... !! (sees the details, disgusted, but used to it as a surgeon)

... The Narrator's yellow frame materializes in the room.

- "Just when we thought the story was over, the villain comes back, even stronger."
As an author, you should appreciate this trope: "Not quite asleep".
- (petrified with dread) How...?
- What do you do in the evening, to make sure you wake up the next morning?
- (??) ... An alarm... An alarm clock?!
- Bravo! You deserve a favor, Oh Yeon-Joo.
Even if he's not identical, a father should be authentic...
to say a last word to his daughter.

Zitsh! Sung-Moo's eyes stop being yellow lozenges.
Yeon-Joo then understands that this Sung-Moo is real, once freed from the Narrator.

(tearful, shakes "no" with her head frantically)

The Narrator disappears and ZEERF... time restarts.
SPROTSH! Sung-Moo's eyes explode! The acid attacks the body, the clothes.
SRIIIFSHHH... The skin dissolves into fulminating black mush, face eaten down to the bone.

- (suffocates, scream of horrible gurgles)
KRARGLglGlglloAglOrgLGLglgl... (drops the jerrycan)
- (mad with horror and sadness)
DAD DAAAD RAHH DAAAAAAD!!! (collapses)

FREEZ... The atrocity freezes in time... The Narrator materializes.
As his appearances go on, the room becomes caricatured, amplifying the madness.

- I'm won over by your professionalism, Oh Yeon-Joo.
You're an excellent character. Your emotions are up to the drama.
Two magnificent deaths. Which do you prefer? Oh Sung-Moo or Kang Chul?
I'm undecided. I wonder what the readers' opinion will be.
- (lost) ... Kang Chul... What did you do to him?
- An experiment, more sophisticated than a simple retroactive continuity:
"If a manhwa never existed, what becomes of the characters born in it?"

C15#4. FLASHBACK - Editor Park's Office (evening).
A poster of "Z" is hung on the wall, instead of "W".
Editor Park consults the statistics of "Z volume 5" on the computer.
Date on the screen: "12/03/2010". (Publication date of "W volume 5")

C15#5. FLASHBACK - Big Bookstore (day).
In front of a poster "Z - Signing Session - 10/05/2015"...
... Sung-Moo signs autographs for a line of fans.
On the displays: the volumes of the manhwa "Z" from 1 to 29.

C15#6. PRESENT.
- The answer wasn't disappointing: Kang Chul never existed!
Only we and a few others will keep the memory of him.
Those who traveled into W seem exempt from the retro-causality.

The Narrator disappears and ZEERF... time restarts.
SKRIIFSISHH... The acid boils the brain!
Tears of liquefied brains run from the hollow eye sockets.

- ..... !! (horrified)

The clothes melt. The body twitches and swells.
The arteries burst, the blood immediately necrosed!

: (grimaces in heartbreaking relief)
It's better that he's dead, so he doesn't suffer that.

FREEZ... The terrible dissolution freezes in time.
The Narrator's frame materializes...

- A good character must have old traumas.
I just have a new one for you, Oh Yeon-Joo.
- ..... (desperate, searches for a way out while trembling)
- You're not just responsible for your recent misfortunes.
I had presumed that Park Soo-Bong had woken me, the first time. However...
(tells)

C15#7. FLASHBACK, "W" - Sung-Moo's Replica Living Room (day).
Soo-Bong sleeps on the couch. The clock shows 7:30. (Ep06)

C15#8. PRESENT.
: (!!) That wasn't in Butterfly Girl?? (remembers...)

C15#9. MANHWA, Ep17, "Butterfly Girl" - Edge of the Forest (end of day).
Ren-Bo is dead mummified in Soo-Bong's arms, without the word "END".

~ He would have understood to write "TO BE CONTINUED" instead, without asking questions. An impossible question without answer. An existential paradox.
For the first time, a spark of consciousness awoke in him.

C15#10. PRESENT.
- "6 hours later", "3 months later".
Does that ring a bell?
- !!! (realizes...)

C15#11. RECALL, Ep06 - Sung-Moo's Bedroom (night).
Yeon-Joo finishes a drawing: Soo-Bong in the replica's living room.
At the top, a text insert: "6 hours later".

C15#12. RECALL, Ep36 - Sung-Moo's Living Room (day).
Kang Chul shows a picture of "Butterfly Girl" on a computer:
¤ Soo-Bong crying in a forest, with a yellow frame "Soo-Bong’s tears are flowing".

~ The manhwa forced the Narrator to write a description in a manhwa he thought was finished. Again something impossible.

C15#13. PRESENT.
- In reality, it was you, and not Park Soo-Bong. Only, it was the first time in all eternity that I woke up. I was a newborn, barely conscious. So I went back to sleep after that. But when it happened again in "Butterfly Girl", that ersatz of awakening played a crucial role. I remembered it to reach full consciousness.
- (incredulous, overwhelmed) No... No, it's impossible.
It was a short insert, not linked to the main plot. (remembers...)

C15#14. RECALL, Ep07 - Sung-Moo's Bedroom (night).
Kang Chul is sitting on the bed, next to Yeon-Joo lying down.
He checks the end image of "W", on his smartphone.

- Still no episode published. "W" stayed on its end.

C15#15. PRESENT.
- It was never published! I can't have caused that.
- You're wrong, Oh Yeon-Joo, it was published.
Like this other event, without description from me, ...
(tells)

C15#16. FLASHBACK, "W" - Sung-Moo's Replica Living Room (day).
Kang Chul contemplates smiling: a cart full of gold bars.
He holds dozens of ownership certificates in hand.

~ ... the gold trafficking between W and the real world, that you organized.

C15#17. PRESENT.
- ... ? (confused, remembers...)

C15#18. RECALL, Ep06 - Sung-Moo's Bedroom (morning).

- Something's wrong?
- We explained the process well.
But I have the feeling that something is escaping me.
- Your intuition, maybe?

C15#19. PRESENT.
(confused, realizes that his intuition was right)
- After investing your world, "Lost Reality", I checked. (tells...)

C15#20. FLASHBACK - Comic Book Shop (day).
An amused fan reads a magazine, two pages of "W", without "END" nor "TO BE CONTINUED":
¤ Kang Chul with a cart of gold bars and dozens of certificates in hand.

~ The manhwa got published, in an unknown magazine dedicated to Fan-Fictions.

C15#21. PRESENT.
- Do you understand now, Oh Yeon-Joo? You're the cause of everything!
Responsible for the death of Kang Chul and thousands of other characters.
- .... (torn, remembers why everything started...)

C15#22. RECALL, Ep06 - Sung-Moo's Bedroom (morning).
- I have an idea that avoids fraud, and that provides a compliant certificate.

C15#23. PRESENT.
Now, Yeon-Joo realizes that her successive irresponsibilities led to the drama.
Playing with mechanisms altering realities, like nothing, for futile motives.
The Narrator disappears, leaving her to her pain, and ZEERF... time restarts.

- (broken, cries with guilt, eaten by remorse)
Boo hoo hoo... No... no. Boo hoo hoo...

Clop! Sung-Moo's head detaches.
SRiishFRrrShrrshhh... The boiling and blackened body shrinks...
Yeon-Joo continues to cry horribly, for the two dear beings she lost... (remembers)

C15#24. RECALL, Ep50 - Sung-Moo's Office (early afternoon).
- Dad!!! (bewildered, happy)
- Ah, here you are.

C15#25. RECALL, Ep50 - Sung-Moo's Office (early afternoon).
- I loved you, once. (starts to disintegrate)

C15#26. PRESENT.
Shriishrrshhh... The last bones dissolve.
Sung-Moo's body decomposes into a carbonized puddle.
The appalling stench of sulfur and grilled flesh brings Yeon-Joo back to reality.
She remembers a line from Kang Chul (in the car, Ep50):

~ It's very important. After seeing your father, you must imperatively go to the hospital, to check the health of Soo-Bong and Ren-Bo. ABSOLUTELY!!!

Yeon-Joo gets up, her mental health mutilated.
She ignores how she would succeed, desperate.
She forces herself to dispel her doubts... and leaves in haste!

#16. Sung-Moo's Garden (afternoon).

Yeon-Joo rushes out of the house.
FREEZ... Time slows, the Narrator materializes.

- Oh Yeon-Joo, your turn has come.
- !!! (morbid shock, remembers...)
~ He could eliminate us immediately. Otherwise, he has a reason.
He wants us to know something before we die!

The Narrator disappears and ZEERF... time restarts.

: (terrified) He revealed to me what he wanted me to know.
Now, he won't let me go. (exits through the gate)

#17. Sung-Moo's Street (afternoon).

Yeon-Joo gets into Kang Chul's red sports car.
(Note: the temporal changes and distortions become implicit, when the Narrator appears.)

- What use is fleeing me, in a world where I'm omniscient?

VROOM! She starts with a roar, devastated with terror seeing the Narrator in the rearview.

#18. In Kang Chul's Car (afternoon).

Yeon-Joo drives and speeds.
The Narrator's frame appears at the edge of the road.

- You forget something, Oh Yeon-Joo.
You're now a secondary character.
- ... !!! (terrorized)
- Let's take a little ride, together.
- (suffocating, guesses) Agh... No... (in a sob)

A frame on bright yellow background appears, with only text:

- *Oh Yeon-Joo turns left.*

Yeon-Joo, horrified, sees her own arms turn the wheel left, by themselves!!!

- *Oh Yeon-Joo turns right.*

Her arms turn right, uncontrollable, despite her will!!!
Yeon-Joo, on the edge of madness, is confronted with the ultimate nightmare become reality!
We exit Yeon-Joo's car through the roof and...

#19. Seoul, General View (afternoon).

... we see Yeon-Joo's car turn again.
As the view becomes aerial, at the other end of Seoul...
... Myungsei Hospital is parallel to the car's trajectory.
Consequently, she moves away from it!

#20. Hospital, Surgery Corridor (afternoon).

A red light indicates "Operation in Progress"...
... above the door leading to a surgery room.
Sitting on a bench, Su-Ran glances around her, paranoid.

: (fatalistic) He can appear anytime.
Only, I won't see him. Then in some unknown way, I'll die.

She resigns herself and cries...

: Oooh, Kang Chul, selfish bastard. Just once, I would have liked to make love with you before dying. That would have absolved me of all the pathetic guys I fucked.

#21. Kang Chul's Car + Suburban Street (afternoon).

Yeon-Joo drives toward nowhere, fearing a new order from the Narrator.
A pale yellow "normal" frame materializes, ahead on the road.

- Now that I control you, I could make you a main character.
Without wanting to hurt your modesty, I find you better than Moon Mi-Ra.
: (!!) He wants to keep me alive... In that case... (remembers)

{RECALL INSERT - In Kang Chul's Car (early afternoon).}
A little earlier, while Yeon-Joo drives.

- When you're alone facing him, never give up.
Exploit his weakness, his desire to talk.

Yeon-Joo sees a car exit a parking lot, far ahead.

- ("now!") A mediocre author doesn't deserve a character like me!

FREEZ... Time slows, the Narrator materializes.

- It pains me that you don't recognize my artistic talent.
I yet created for you a more tragic destiny than Moon Mi-Ra's.
: Don't let him erase his frame!

Yeon-Joo presses the accelerator!
The gain in speed is undetectable, because of the slowed time.
She charges toward the other car, and should hit its front side.

- ("quick, say anything")
A series of clichés, you have no imagination.
- I have lots of ideas. For example, since your story is cleared of your sterile relationship with Kang Chul, I'll involve you in a romance with the protagonist.
- (!) Who is he?
- It's alas a spoiler impossible to reveal to you for now.

Yeon-Joo is close enough to the other car.
"250 km/h" on the speedometer.
She stays silent, to avoid inciting a response from the Narrator.
So that he disappears and time restarts.
Yeon-Joo, under adrenaline, risks everything!

The Narrator disappears, ZEERF... time restarts and--
CRASH!! She hits the other car, shoved by the impact.
Zak! Yeon-Joo is held by the seatbelt.

VROOM!! The sports car speeds, only the bumper damaged.
Zinn... Yeon-Joo sees a bright yellow frame forming...
Tchak! She unbuckles her seatbelt.

- STOP!!! OR I'LL KILL MYSELF!!!
(heart pounding, scans the frame, her last chance)

The bright yellow frame stops halfway!

- At this speed, any collision is fatal! You saw: NO AIRBAG!!
Over for your new favorite main character!

Nnzz... The bright yellow frame fades...
Panting, Yeon-Joo is on borrowed time, as long as she drives full throttle.
She arrives at an intersection: a two-lane suburban road.
Only, many cars pass, and the light is red!

Stress!!! Yeon-Joo plays Russian roulette and enters without visibility.
SKkriiii... She makes a wide turn to join the far lane.
She passes in extremis in front of two cars from the near lane.
And passes just after a car from the far lane. A stroke of luck!

Now, she has to weave between the cars she overtakes.
A sign indicates "Seoul 5 km". FREEZ... Time slows.
Paranoid, Yeon-Joo looks everywhere, but sees no frame!

: He appeared elsewhere... (worried)

#22. Hospital, Surgery Corridor (afternoon).

Su-Ran, ??!, sees two security agents run.
They enter the surgery room... and shortly after...
They come out vigorously evacuating Yun-Suk from the room.
They have to restrain him because he's agitated. Blood on his surgeon's outfit.

- (screams) It wasn't me! I didn't do anything!! I didn't kill him!!!

Worried, Su-Ran wants to ask them, but in front of her--
Professor Lee comes out of another operating room, looking grave...

- ... ?! (worried x2)
- I have bad news.
- ... !! (appalled, "neither of them survived?")

#23. Seoul Avenue + Kang Chul's Car (afternoon).

VROOM... Yeon-Joo speeds into the city center!!
She sees a sign "Myungsei Hospital, straight ahead".

Her car passes in front of a cinema.
She doesn't notice its banner "Action Anthology".
Nor its poster for the action movie "SPEED", with Keanu Reeves.
(Pitch: a bus unable to slow down, under penalty of exploding.)

Stressed, Yeon-Joo scans far ahead... (!!) "No!!"
What she dreaded: a traffic jam blocks the avenue!
She looks for an alternative, mad with anxiety.
None, except... The wide sidewalk, with dozens of passersby!

Yeon-Joo grimaces in contrition, "no choice".
At the next intersection before the jam--
TUUUUUUUU... She honks continuously and charges onto the sidewalk!!!

"WaAhAhaa..." People scream and move aside...
... except a burly man, the one-eyed gangster boss, amused by the panic.
His back turned, he can't see the car. He might hear it, but doesn't care, out of arrogance.

- (still, lights a cigarette)
Yeah, get lost, bunch of losers.
- AAAAH!!! (impossible to avoid)

BRANG!!! She hits the big thug! Flying leap...
SbBrool!! He crashes in rolls.
Worried, Yeon-Joo looks in the rearview:
The man moves a bit. She's reassured "a bit".

The thug reaches out...
... tries to grab his lit cigarette, farther on the sidewalk.

- Agh... Shit... I'm allowed one last-- (faints or dies)

On the opposite sidewalk, the thug's underlings witness it. (They had a meeting.)

- Hyungnim! (sorry)
- Run over by a female nutcase.
- The same one who gouged his eye?
(spots Yeon-Joo's car)

He looks at the sidewalk where she’s driving, far ahead of her:
An old woman exits the subway, pushing a stroller!
And further on, a bus drops off a group of schoolkids!

TUUU-TUUUUU... The mad car ravages everything in its path!
SBRASH! It destroys a trinket stand. The vendor screams!
SBLASH! It smashes a street-food stall. Tteokbokki and kimchi drench the passersby.

The passersby flee dropping bags, briefcases, umbrellas, etc.
SbAm-Zrach!!! Objects smashed, projected, crushed under the wheels.
Yeon-Joo, ... !!!, grimaces "sorry".

A man drags a cart of water jerrycans.
(!!) He notices her in time and pulls his hand away--
SBOM-Splash!! Jerrycans burst. Water explosion.
Sbing-bong-bom... Other jerrycans bounce wildly.
Yeon-Joo, blinded by the water, !!, sees too late--
The frightened old woman backs up and abandons her stroller!!

- NOOO!!! (impossible to avoid)

BAAMM!!! She hits the stroller! Flying leap...
Gutted, Fp-fp-fp... a rain of old newspapers escapes from it.

- (sees the newspapers fly in the rearview, heart suspended)
Oh shit... (relieved, then--) !!! (heart punch)

Yeon-Joo charges at the schoolkids!!!

She sees the sidewalk widen onto a square.
Only alternative: move away from the sidewalk, but...
The blue tent of an outdoor restaurant obstructs the square!
Reluctantly, she veers toward the restaurant...

{INSERT - In the canvas restaurant.}
After lunch, few people.
A lawyer reassures his client:

- I'll get you out of any traffic offense.

ZVROSH!! Like a ram hitting from outside and sweeping everything away!

The tent covers the car, carried and shaken by the wind.
VROAM-flp-flp-flp... A blue canvas monster charges onto the square!!
Yeon-Joo, blinded by the canvas, veers by feel toward the sidewalk.

She opens the window, grabs the canvas, but impossible to tear it off.
She pulls it enough to slip a bit under the tires.
Swrotch!! The tires suck in and crush the whole canvas.

Then, !!!, she sees--

Dozens of cars cross in front of her! An intersection.
The line of cars, adjoining her sidewalk, is stopped at the red light.
Yeon-Joo, !!!, reflex--
VROARR!!! She presses the accelerator, "pass as fast as possible".
She clenches her teeth, "it's suicidal", prays for a miracle, and--

SLOW MOTION:
Her car slips between those crossing, skims them within a meter.
Except a sedan charging at her fender, but--
Skriikk!! The driver brakes in extremis.
In the blink of an eye, Yeon-Joo glimpses his eyes:
Yellow lozenges!! Possessed at the last instant.
Ironically, the Narrator saved Yeon-Joo's life!

The same moment, at normal speed:
The red sports car passes skimming dozens of others.
Barely away from the intersection, Yeon-Joo sees in her rearview:
A disastrous pile-up explodes behind her.

BROM! A van rams the possessed's sedan from behind.
That ejects it onto the opposite lane, facing a mini-citadine.
KA-SBRAM!! Head-on collision. The mini-citadine bounces and spins in the air.
KRASH! Crashes. SBROM!! Immediately hit by a pickup.
All the cars lose control and SBADAKRASH!!! smash into each other.
A series of spectacular and deadly accidents!

Yeon-Joo, aghast and guilty, evaluates the lethality of the pile-up.
FREEZ... Time slows, a pale yellow "normal" frame materializes.

- Oh Yeon-Joo, stop worrying me by risking your character's life.
How many deaths are you going to cause to escape me?
- (half mad) As if that mattered to you...
- I appreciated this spectacular scene, but don't overdo it.
I already know how to enlist you. Your refusal is vain.

Yeon-Joo sees Myungsei Hospital in the distance, drives full throttle...

#24. Hospital Parking + Kang Chul's Car (afternoon).

The car slows and enters the parking lot.
Yeon-Joo plunges her hand into her bag.
As soon as the car brakes and stops--
Zinn... Yeon-Joo sees a bright yellow frame forming...
She takes a scalpel from the bag and presses the blade against her carotid.

- STOP!!! (trembles, cuts herself slightly)

The bright yellow frame stops halfway!

- I'm an expert with this. I won't miss!
(drops of blood beading from her neck)

Nnzz... The bright yellow frame fades...
Yeon-Joo hangs her hospital badge, scalpel against her neck.
A normal frame materializes...

- I'm getting impatient, Oh Yeon-Joo. I can't wait to put you on stage.
I won't be long in producing a convincing argument.

She takes a scarf from her bag, keeping the scalpel against her neck.

#25. Myungsei Hospital, Grand Hall (afternoon).

Yeon-Joo evaluates the situation, motionless at the entrance.

Her hand at her neck, slipped under her scarf.
The staff and visitors notice her strangeness.
They see her as a bizarre doctor, with a gaze gangrened by fear.

: Don't draw attention to myself. Don't risk an encounter.

A twisted idea comes to her... Use the Narrator!

- So Narrator... Did you have time to visit?
What do you think of my world?

Yeon-Joo looks like an even more bizarre doctor, talking to herself!
She walks quickly, in the immense hall surrounding the hospital.
The Narrator's normal frame appears. Time slows.

- I made an unusual discovery. The characters of this world adore an ultimate being called "God". They believe blindly in his existence even though they have never seen him. And by magic, this God would arrange the events of the cosmos and their destiny.

As the Narrator speaks, the scene becomes surreal.
The yellow frames appear and disappear, freeze and unfreeze the people in time.
Sometimes, several frames accumulate around Yeon-Joo, for a bit of sentence.

- This God would also impose trials on them to overcome, in the interest of their character development, with an illusion of freedom of choice.

The reality alterations simplify the sets, and transform the people into caricatures!
An aberrant farandole of grotesque follies deforms everything...

- It then struck me as obvious, "Hey! It's exactly me"!

Ordinary people jump the moments of stopped time.
However, Yeon-Joo continues to walk during these moments.
In the distance, a cleaner sees her 30 meters from him.
Wip! The next instant, she teleports to 20 meters.
Wip! To 10 meters.
Wip! She passes near him.
The cleaner, !!!, drops his mop.

- Don't see in this a megalomania that I cannot feel, but I am assuredly this God, whose invisible presence they claim. And I come to them, proving my existence. Their wish is finally granted. Hallelujah! What a pity, they will never know it.

Some people start to detect the alterations of reality.
They see the set and their own body deform, incredulous, stunned.
Yeon-Joo doesn't listen to the Narrator's delirium.
She walks resolutely toward a nurses' counter.

- Oh Yeon-Joo, you are disappointing.
You ask me for details, and it leaves you indifferent.

Once the frame disappears, Yeon-Joo crosses a door next to the counter.
She closes behind her.

#26. Myungsei Hospital (afternoon).

C26#1. Planning Office.
Yeon-Joo, disoriented, examines the room:
A post-it board, two computer stations, and a female administrator...

- Hello Doctor Oh. (worried seeing her hand in her scarf)
You seem suffering. A sore throat?
- The patient Park Soo-Bong, give me all the information about him.
- Of course. (in the process of sitting but--)

The administrator freezes in time.

- ... ?! (looks around, no yellow frame)

C26#2. Grand Hall.
A yellow frame is turned toward the front of the hall.

- Oh Yeon-Joo?

The frame disappears.
Another yellow frame materializes, turned toward the back.
Different directions from the planning office.

C26#3. Planning Office.
Yeon-Joo hears the Narrator outside:

~ Oh Yeon-Joo?
- ... !! (realizes, remembers...)

C26#4. RECALL, Ep36 - Sung-Moo's Bedroom (morning).
Yeon-Joo reads Kang Chul's report on the computer.

~ His perception is not immediate and requires an effort of concentration.
He can only see the parts of the world that are part of the manhwa.

C26#5. Planning Office.
: (!) He lost my trail.

Yeon-Joo takes advantage of the respite to remove the scalpel from her neck and relax her arm.

~ Where are you, Oh Yeon-Joo?

She sits down in an armchair and rests for a while.

~ Oh Yeon-Joo, I will not tolerate your character leaving the manhwa.

C26#6. Grand Hall.
- You force me to deploy persuasive means to bring you back into the story.

C26#7. Planning Office.
- .... (terrible anxiety)

Yeon-Joo waits, breathes a little...
She realizes that time resumes, hearing screams coming from the hall.
The administrator, seated and concentrated, does her search on the computer.
She finds: "Park Soo-Bong, post operation's room: 9-11."

- Mr. Park Soo-Bong will be... (lifts her head, ?!, sees Yeon-Joo seated, ?!)
He will be transferred to room 9-11 after the operation.
- Is the operation finished?
And a girl named Ren-Bo, is she--

Vlom! Someone opens the door.
A desperate nurse, looking like a caricature!
Yeon-Joo quickly puts the scalpel back against her neck!!

- Doctor Oh! (shocked)
(sees the nurse, frightened) AAAAAH!!

The nurse enters screaming, leaving the door open--
FREEZ... Time slows.
In the hall, a pale yellow frame materializes, turned toward the office.

- ... !! (fright!)
- I found you, Oh Yeon-Joo.

Yeon-Joo charges out of the room, shoving the frozen nurse!!

C26#8. Grand Hall.
Yeon-Joo rushes toward the elevator hall, scalpel pressed to her neck.
The frozen people are frightened by the set or themselves, transformed into sketches.

- Oh Yeon-Joo, for the last time, become my main character.
I offer you a prized situation, prestigious, with nothing demanding...

People wait in front of the elevators, frozen in time.
A man (doctor) has his back turned to Yeon-Joo, so she can't see that...

#27. Elevator Hall (afternoon).

... Zitsh!, the man's eyes become two luminous yellow lozenges.
(An "N" is added after the pronoun, to qualify these people possessed by the Narrator.)
The man N feigns immobility, among the other people frozen in time.
The Narrator prepares a trap!!
He continues to speak to keep time frozen.

- A restful life, without cumbersome decisions. Who doesn't dream of that?
Do you want a magic trick to convince you?

When Yeon-Joo passes near the man N--
Snap! He grabs her wrist and removes her hand from her neck.
Yeon-Joo, !!!!, terrible surprise!
The man N snatches her scalpel.
Yeon-Joo, horrified, sees his lozenge eyes.

- This scalpel, I can make it disappear.

Tshik! The man N plants the scalpel in his own ear.
He puts his palm against the end and--

TSHAK!! Drives the scalpel in entirely!! Piercing eardrum and brain!!

- !!!
- Applause!

Clap-Clap! The man N applauds.
Zitsh! His eyes become normal.
Yeon-Joo, !!!
The Narrator disappears, ZEERF... time restarts and--
Bompf! The man collapses dead.

Zinn... A bright yellow frame materializes in the air.
Yeon-Joo, PANICS!!!
She rushes to the first door within reach!
Enters without seeing where. SLAM! Closes behind!
Just at that moment--
The bright yellow frame ends: *Oh Yeon-Joo doesn't move anymore.*

On the door that Yeon-Joo crossed:
A staircase logo and a light block "Emergency Exit".

#28. Emergency Staircase (afternoon).

Yeon-Joo trembles with terror behind the door.

: Am I out of the manhwa?

She doesn't know, tormented, looks at the room:
To the left, a straight staircase going up to a landing and the floors.
To the right, a corridor with an exit door at the end.
(This corridor has the same depth as the staircase + landing.)

She rushes into the corridor.
As she is about to open the exit door...

: (hesitates) And outside, do I return to the manhwa?

She hears noise, screams coming from the hall, behind the door.

: Can he find me here?!
(panicked, looks everywhere and sees under the staircase...)

... a house-roll, and next... a blue waterproof tarp, covering a mound of objects.
Yeon-Joo hides under the blue tarp!

She strives to stop trembling, motionless.
Vlan! She hears the elevator hall door open.
A dozen people enter screaming and run toward the exit door.

Yeon-Joo sees them exit, through a hole in the tarp:
The unfortunates are caricatures, with simplified clothes.
Clac! The hall door closes automatically.

: Are others going to come out? (waits anxiously)

#29. Myungsei Hospital (afternoon).

C29#1. Grand Hall.
All the people immobilize and--
Zitsh! Zitsh! Zitsh!... their eyes become yellow lozenges.
Everywhere in the hall, all activity ceases...
Only deformed human statues remain...

C29#2. Waiting Room.
All the people immobilize and--
Zitsh! Zitsh! Zitsh!... their eyes become yellow lozenges.
Seated people, in a frightening unnatural immobility...

C29#3. Patient Room.
A patient and his doctor immobilize and--
Zitsh! Zitsh! their eyes become yellow lozenges.

C29#4. Cafeteria.
All the people immobilize and--
Zitsh! Zitsh! Zitsh!... their eyes become yellow lozenges.
Cooks, servers at the counter, queue, people eating at the tables...
ALL STATUFIED!!!

It has become a ghost hospital, filled with static human sentinels...
Under total control of the Narrator!

C29#5. Elevator Hall.
Doctors, patients, and visitors stand motionless... with yellow lozenge eyes!
Grotesque appearance. Dead silence. A spine-chilling atmosphere...

A woman N starts walking, while the others remain like statues.
She heads toward the door of the emergency staircase...

#30. Emergency Staircase.

Under the blue tarp, Yeon-Joo hears the hall door open, then...
clop-clop... slow footsteps approach.
She sees through the hole, !!!, TERRIFIED:
A woman N, with yellow lozenge eyes, walks toward the exit...

The woman N opens the exterior exit.
She remains a while scanning the parking outside...
Yeon-Joo, ... !!!
Then the woman N exits, and...
Cloc! the exit door closes automatically.

: Does this place belong to the manhwa now?
(gnawed) ... No, maybe not... ?

#31. Grand Hall.

In the mass of static people, a man N starts walking.
He passes between his congeners with lozenge eyes, with a terrifying slowness...
He enters a random room. (a room outside the manhwa)
Farther, a man N moves and searches the same way.
Then a third, but no more.

#32. Elevator Hall.

Ting! The elevator opens, empty.
A woman N examines the interior, from the hall.
Then she clicks to call another elevator.
In the static group, a man N animates.
He walks toward the emergency staircase... (Where Yeon-Joo is)

#33. Emergency Staircase.

The man N enters and walks toward the staircase.
clop, He sets foot on a step, when--
Fritsh! A small noise comes from under the staircase!
The man N removes his foot from the step, then...
... He walks in the corridor going toward the exit.

He inspects under the staircase, in walking order:
A partition, a closed linen cart, then... the blue tarp!!
He stares at the tarp, motionless, when--
Frosh! The tarp moves slightly.
The man N grabs the tarp and--
Woshh!! He uncovers it entirely!!

Underneath: An embedded stepladder, and a damaged folded wheelchair.
Krr. A rusty spring of the wheelchair uncoils and--
KrK! an armrest extends by itself.
From inside the linen cart (house-roll), covered with an opaque vinyl net:
Through a gap, we see the man N examining the folded wheelchair!

The man N notes: (in other words, the Narrator)
"It's just an old wheelchair, moving by itself".
He returns to the staircase, passes in front of the linen cart...
... without suspecting anything!

clop, He sets a foot on a step of the staircase...
clop, A second foot, then... STOPS!
He changes his mind, turns around, comes down and...
... returns to look under the staircase!!

The man N stops in front of the linen cart.
He leans, checks behind... "No room to hide here".
He examines the opaque vinyl closure: velcro fasteners.
It seems impossible to close from the inside.
The lozenge eyes gleam with approval.
He pivots to leave, and...

... STOPS! He seems to think:
"It costs nothing to check".
He grabs the vinyl cloth and--
Sratch! Opens the linen cart!
Inside: sheets stacked on the 3 levels of the cart.
Even a cat couldn't hide there.

The man N leaves and goes up the staircase...
clop... clop... His footsteps resonate on the steps.
Under the staircase, between the partition and the linen cart...
... on the side wall, hidden in the penumbra by the cart:
The slits of a closed closet! A Janitor's Closet under the stairs.

#34. Janitor's Closet.

In the penumbra, lit by the light coming from the slits:
Yeon-Joo terrified, eyes bulging, a hand on her mouth.
Her other hand, raised, holds a screwdriver...
... driven into the extinguished and broken LED lamp.
(These closets have lamps with plastic protection and automatic lighting.)
clop... clop... She hears the footsteps on the steps, just above.

#35. Myungsei Hospital (afternoon).

C35#1. Elevator Hall.
Time slows... The Narrator appears.

- Oh Yeon-Joo, I cannot see you...

C35#2. Janitor's Closet.
~ ... but I know that you can hear me.
- ... !!

C35#3. Sky.
Above the hospital, a gigantic yellow frame appears.

- In order to incite you to return to the manhwa, and make you my character...

C35#4. Janitor's Closet.
~ ... I had to take drastic measures.
- .... !!!

C35#5. Sky.
Far above the hospital... at a stratospheric height:
A yellow frame materializes, occupying half the sky, masking the sun.

- A radical change of the plot of "Lost Reality"!

C35#6. Janitor's Closet.
~ Look at the news, on your smartphone.
- !!!!

Yeon-Joo takes out her smartphone, lighting her face in the penumbra.
She clicks on the news icon, and when she reads... (We don't see)
Her eyes widen enormously... A stunning and thunderstruck fright!!

#36. Space + Regions of Earth.

C36#1. Space.
Between the Earth and the Moon, a yellow frame of the Narrator materializes...
... turned toward the Earth... ten times larger than the Earth...

... and its text:

- BOOM!

The yellow frame disappears.

C36#2. Countryside. (Unknown country)
A military hospital.
Around, a large military base.
Around, roads, fields, farms, villages.

A luminous FLASH!! blinds everything, like the sun full in the eye.

VBROOOMM!!! A nuclear explosion razes the entire region.

Atomic mushroom.

C36#3. Space.
A new frame materializes, identical to the previous one.

- BOOM!

The yellow frame disappears.

C36#4. Ocean.
An armada of military ships cruises, then--
Underwater atomic shock! The sea trembles! The seagulls flee!
VBROOSHHH!!! A wall of water a kilometer high emerges and engulfs the armada!!!
A nuclear shockwave furrows ten kilometers of ocean around.

C36#5. Space.
A new frame materializes, identical to the previous one.

- BOOM!

The yellow frame disappears.

C36#6. Archipelago.
A maritime military bunker shelters submarines.
FLASH!! general, then--
VBROOOMM!!! A nuclear explosion razes the island.

The atomic mushroom swells...

#37. Myungsei Hospital (afternoon).

C37#1. Janitor's Closet.
Yeon-Joo, half mad, stares at her smartphone:
"3rd world war. Nuclear strikes on military targets."
Yeon-Joo nods "no" with her head, stunned, incredulous.

C37#2. Grand Hall.
- We have arrived at an adequate stage to go for overkill.
You have little time to decide, otherwise I will move to the next stage...

C37#3. Janitor's Closet.
~ ... the civilian targets, all the big cities, the global atomic holocaust!
Do you really care about being responsible for that?

Yeon-Joo realizes... The Narrator, this aberration of an unimaginable dementia...
... is ready to atomize billions of lives... just to obtain his favorite character?!!
Nothing fundamentally wrong in his twisted logic, motivated by insane artistic ambitions.

Yeon-Joo cries, traumatized and defeated.
She grimaces in resignation while trembling, ready to surrender.
She pushes the closet door slightly, to exit...
A ray of light enters, revives her will, and...
... She STOPS pushing!
She hesitates... then... lets the door close.

At the risk of being discovered, she screams:

- WHY ME?!!

C37#4. Grand Hall.
Yeon-Joo's voice echoes in the hall, impossible to locate...

~ WHYYY?!!
- You know why, Oh Yeon-Joo. My favorite character was Moon Mi-Ra.
Then I discovered that my relationship with you was even better.

C37#5. Janitor's Closet.
~ Your tragic conjecture and your dramatic perfection surpasses her.
I even had to lie for you, Oh Yeon-Joo, remember...
- ... !!! (petrified)

Without mandatory order, just by the force of the argument:
Yeon-Joo cannot help remembering, starting with a line from her psychiatrist...

~ "BOOM", implosion!

#38. MONTAGE, Yeon-Joo.

C38#1. RECALL, Ep40 - In Mi-Ra's Limousine (night).
Yeon-Joo points a pistol at Mi-Ra.

- ... I'm going to kill you.

- ... !!!!!!!

C38#2. Doctor Choi's Office (day).
SUBTITLE : A few weeks after the Crossover.
Yeon-Joo consults the famous psychoanalyst Dr. Choi.
(Ep24, unjustly accused, acquitted after a long trial.)

- She was a murderess who had ruined our lives, about to demolish my son.
So I tried to kill her, before she succeeded.
- Family is sacred and the "Han" is very strong in Korea.
The "Han" can surge in a similar case, to protect what is legitimate.
(Han: accumulated grief, resentment boiling under the surface.)

C38#3. RECALL, Ep40 - In Mi-Ra's Limousine (night).
- (cries) You can't be a murderess, Oh Yeon-Joo.
You'll go to prison. Think of your son. I beg you, STOP THIS.

- ..... (tragically indifferent)

C38#4. Doctor Choi's Office (day).
- I thought I was incapable of it. It wasn't me...
- You are neither crazy, nor a criminal. You had a temporary dissociation, similar to those since your childhood. It's your survival reflex by mental escape.

C38#5. RECALL, Ep40 - In Mi-Ra's Limousine (night).
- ... !!!!!!! (eyes bulging, terror, imminent death!)

This time, we see Yeon-Joo IN TRANCE, when she presses the trigger:
POW! POW! She shoots twice!!!!

C38#6. Doctor Choi's Office (day).
- No, I mean... I don't know how, but...
I was in a sort of trance?! I would have really done it!!
- It was impossible for you to flee, so it doubled with an archetypal possession.
An altered state releasing the repressed energy, submerging the being from its root.

C38#7. RECALL, Ep40 - Sung-Moo's Living Room (morning).
- (mad) RAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
- (startles) Ahb-b-b!!!
- (startles) Ohoh!!!

Yeon-Joo stands up, snatch!, tears the electric cable from her tablet.
She takes the tablet and the electric cable, puts her stylus in her pocket...
... and goes furiously to the bedroom, to work in peace!

C38#8. RECALL, Ep40 - Sung-Moo's Bedroom (night).
- You're wrong, and the plan you planned with her won't work.
She will never finish her manhwa.
- Then wait until tomorrow. You'll have the proof that yes.
- No, it's you who will have the proof of what I say.
So promise me...
- .... ?!
- When she has betrayed you, promise me to come back to me.

C38#9. RECALL, Ep40 - In Mi-Ra's Limousine (night).
- (cry of despair) I also want to finish the manhwa!!!

C38#10. RECALL, Ep40 - Sung-Moo's Bedroom (morning).
Alone here, Yeon-Joo looks on the black screen of the extinguished tablet...
... the reflection of her pathetic face, distorted by exacerbated suffering.

: (desperate) There will be no miracle.
Mi-Ra won't betray him, and he really loves her.

C38#11. RECALL, Ep40 - Sung-Moo's Living Room (noon).
- .... !!!!!!!!!!!! (his heart stops beating seeing the tablet)

On the tablet:

- Now is the moment of the REVOLUTION!!! Fight for your Queen!
Take up arms!!! Kill all those who will oppose my Royalty!!!

- ....... (petrified with incredulity)

- I guess the final chapter is screwed... again...
- Hyung... She really betrayed you.
- ...... (destabilized, frightened)

Yeon-Joo should be happy about Mi-Ra's betrayal, the miracle she hoped for...
... but it seemed so impossible that she feels deeply disturbed.

C38#12. Doctor Choi's Office (day).
- What really motivated you was jealousy, isn't that right?
It's this burden that weighs on you the most.
- (hard to admit) ... Yes.

C38#13. RECALL, Ep40, "Crossover" - Abandoned Cabin (day).
- (cruel smile) Kang Chul is the incestuous son you had with your father!!!

C38#14. RECALL, Ep40 - Sung-Moo's Bedroom (morning).
The feeling of powerlessness leads Yeon-Joo to hatred.

- (fulminates, teeth clenched)
Bitch... Fucking bitch... Whore... Dirty whore.

She is intoxicated by the poison of jealousy...

C38#15. Doctor Choi's Office (day).
- Yet, I never was a jealous person?!
- Jealousy is illusory. This woman was the exact symbol of your shadow:
The part of your personality that you dread to tame, because dark.
And that's what you lack to succeed in your couple life.

C38#16. RECALL, Ep40, "Crossover" - Abandoned Cabin (day).
- I was so surprised the first time we made love.
My poor man had been neglected so long by an austere woman...
just good for doing the missionary once a month.

C38#17. RECALL, Ep40 - Sung-Moo's Bedroom (morning).
- (visceral) I hate her.... I Hate Her... I HATE HER...
I hate her, with all my heart and all my soul!

C38#18. Doctor Choi's Office (day).
- (hesitates) ... And if I had another secret?
- I can hear everything. It will remain confidential.

C38#19. IMAGINATION, Yeon-Joo.
The image is blurry and burning like hell.
Kang Chul and Mi-Ra make love, both reaching orgasm.

C38#20. RECALL, Ep40 - Sung-Moo's Bedroom (morning).
- (shakes her head frantically, tears out her hair)
Stop!!! STOP!!! STOOOOOP!!!!!

With eyes mad with obsession, she focuses on the tablet, starts drawing...

- (like an incantation) Ren-Bo... I must help Ren-Bo... I must think of nothing else... help Ren-Bo... think of nothing else... think of nothing else...

C38#21. Doctor Choi's Office (day).
- A secret so terrible that I cannot reveal it to anyone, not even to you?
- "BOOM", implosion! You risk that.
It's like that for people with a moral compass, without psychopathic disorder.

C38#22. RECALL, Ep40 - Sung-Moo's Living Room (noon).

- ....... (looks at the tablet, petrified with incredulity)
- ...... (destabilized, frightened)

It's now clear, in close-up...
Yeon-Joo doesn't see in it an unexpected miracle.
It's only guilt!
She looks at Kang Chul with intense remorse...

C38#23. RECALL, Ep40 - Sung-Moo's Bedroom (morning).
Yeon-Joo draws on the tablet, alone here.

- Help Ren-Bo... think of nothing else... think of nothing else...

SUDDENLY--
The yellow light bursts from the tablet...

- ... !!

... then the frame and the face of the Narrator!

- I came on your tablet only, so that our interview would be confidential.
We have a common goal that we can achieve, without collateral prejudice.
- (incredulous) ... What?
- I saw you try to kill your rival in the Crossover.
That doesn't satisfy me, because I love Moon Mi-Ra, and wish her no harm.
So I would prefer to conclude an arrangement with you, Oh Yeon-Joo.
- ("unexpected", troubled) ... You, love Mi-Ra?! ... An arrangement?
- Moon Mi-Ra can be set aside, without anyone being hurt.
And thus, Kang Chul, the man you love, will return to you.
- ... !! (stunned, remembers...)

C38#24. RECALL, Ep40 - Sung-Moo's Bedroom (night).
- You're sure she won't betray you, so you can easily promise it.
- ....... ("she's right")
- That will never happen, right?
So if it did... Promise me to give me back my love.

- ... I promise you... When the manhwa is finished.

C38#25. RECALL, Ep40 - Sung-Moo's Bedroom (morning).
- (unhealthy hope) ... Set her aside...
Do you plan to do something to her?
- Alas, I don't have the capacity to affect a main character.
However, Oh Yeon-Joo, you can, without anyone ever knowing anything about it.

Yeon-Joo's face distorts into various contradictory tormented states...

: Do I have a means to restore what is legitimate?
No! It's totally crazy.
Yes! That bitch must pay for the harm she did!
- How?
- You just need to draw a frame similar to mine...
A frame that I will conceal in the manhwa.
: No! It's horrible, I can't pact with this monster.
Yes! She has no right to have Kang Chul. Never, never!
- And in this frame, write these few innocuous words:
"Moon Mi-Ra is the Narrator's character".
: Will that have other consequences?
What does it matter! It's my last chance, for my family.
But how will we finish the manhwa?
- Of course, someone will have to kill her, if you want to finish the manhwa.
But that's a side matter, without link to our arrangement.
: I hate her, I hate her more than anything!
The only good act of her life will be to die to finish the manhwa.
Yes, I must do it, by the grace of providence.

Yeon-Joo is now coldly decided.

- Free the tablet.

The Narrator disappears, leaving a blank screen.
Yeon-Joo draws a bright yellow frame on the tablet...

: May she meet the fate she deserves!

She writes in the frame:
"*Moon Mi-Ra is the Narrator's character.*"

C38#26. RECALL, Ep40 - Sung-Moo's Bedroom (end of morning).
- Don't stay alone, Noona. Come back to work in the living room.
They'll be careful from now on.
- (?!) ..... (lifts her head, looks at him)
- ..... (embarrassed smile)
- (bursts into tears) Boo hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo....
- ... Let's go next door, you'll feel better.
(unplugs the tablet)
- (heartbreaking) Boo hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo....

We now know the true reason for her heartbreaking tears:
The ignoble act she just committed with the Narrator!

#39. Myungsei Hospital (afternoon).

C39#1. Janitor's Closet.
Yeon-Joo would like to be able to cry like that day, but...

- (tears, hand on her mouth)
MmmHGgMm... MmmGm... GhMmm...

... Impossible, the Narrator would end up finding her.
She must interiorize this traumatic suffering, culminating at its paroxysm.

C39#2. Grand Hall.
- Certainly, lying is not in my nature... (tells)

C39#3. FLASHBACK, Ep47 - "Crossover" - National Assembly Office (day).
- I am the one who made you the one you are today.
- (pulls the curtain) ... !!! (contemplates the appalling truth...)
- As a consequence of which...

Behind the curtain, there was a bright yellow frame of the Narrator:
*Moon Mi-Ra is the Narrator's character.*

- ... You became one of my characters.
- ....... (impression of dying)

C39#4. Grand Hall.
- But it was a mandatory lie, constrained by our arrangement.

C39#5. Janitor's Closet.
~ An arrangement without result. Me, for an obliterated woman. You, for a man who only existed in your childhood dreams. I regret a little. Don't you?

Yeon-Joo already endures the unbearable.
She has accumulated too much, since the beginning of W four worlds:
Deep guilt, successive mournings, recent terrors, etc.
She held more than was humanly possible.

This last line from the Narrator pushes her beyond limits!
Then... SHE CRACKS!!!
Yeon-Joo collapses and curls up in fetal position.
Her body agitates with involuntary epileptic jolts.

- (inhuman high-pitched scream)
HhHIIiiiiiiiIIIIIiiiIIiiiiiiiiiiiiiIIIiIiiiiiiiiihhhhhh...

She opens her mad eyes one last time and--

FREEZE FRAME:
Freeze frame of Yeon-Joo's face.
As if her high-pitched scream shattered a mirror:
KrKrk! The image and her face fracture, then--
CRASHH... Explode into mirror pieces.
Her soul bursts into thousands of fragments.

#40. ANIMATION, Yeon-Joo + RAPID MONTAGE.

We slide from one mirror fragment to another.
Each fragment contains a terrible memory.
It shows mainly the misfortunes that happened after Mi-Ra's "betrayal".
The consequences of Yeon-Joo's terrible pact with the Narrator!
An insurmountable infamy...

C40#1. RECALL - Doctor Choi's Office (day).
- I risk an implosion if I keep this secret?
How's that?!
- The negative psychic energy will accumulate in you.
And one day, all at once, your entire mind will self-destruct.
- ... !!

C40#2. Quick Transition. (repeat until the end of the scene)
The previous image shrinks into a fragment of a mirror.
We glide to another fragment, and the image on it enlarges to...

C40#3. DREAM, Ep45, Yeon-Joo - "Imagination".
- I HATE YOU! (points her pistol)

POW! Yeon-Joo shoots Mi-Ra with a bullet in the forehead.

Sprash! Mi-Ra explodes into mirror fragments.
Each fragment reflects Yeon-Joo's hateful face.

This nightmare was maybe premonitory...
... but it's especially the sum of Yeon-Joo's GUILT.

C40#4. RECALL, Ep41 - Sung-Moo's Living Room (day).
- With Mi-Ra helping the Narrator, we'll never keep the pace.
- (mortified, cries) I'll die drawing, if I have to!!!

C40#5. RECALL, Ep41 - Sung-Moo's Living Room (day).
Yeon-Joo sees on the tablet:
Ren-Bo trapped by the giant spider.

- AAAHHHH!!!

C40#6. RECALL, Ep41 - Sung-Moo's Living Room (day).
Yeon-Joo sees on the tablet:
Mr. Teddy's corpse, swollen with reddish abscesses

- (cries) ... No...

C40#7. DREAM, Ep45, Yeon-Joo - "Imagination".
- (swollen corpse) It's you who killed me, Yeon-Joo?

C40#8. RECALL, Ep41 - Sung-Moo's Living Room (day).
Yeon-Joo sees on the tablet:
A total war devastates the Capital.

- (ravaged) .... !!

C40#9. RECALL, Ep41 - Sung-Moo's Living Room (day).
Yeon-Joo, eyes bulging, sees Ren-Bo at the last stage before annihilation.

- (cries) Boo hoo hoo... no... no...

C40#10. RECALL, Ep45 - NIS Villa, Vestibule (evening).
- (to Jae-Jung) NO, THIS IS NOT OKAY!!!
What do you know to decide if it's okay?!!
I DON'T DESERVE TO BE FORGIVEN!!!

C40#11. RECALL, Ep47 - Abandoned Hospital Room.
- (looks at the hurricane through the window, devastated)
No one is prepared. There will be thousands of deaths.

C40#12. DREAM, Ep45, Yeon-Joo - "Imagination".
Yeon-Joo runs among the corpses declaiming "Yeon-Joo... you killed me."

- (hysterical) AAAARAAH.... ARAAHHAAA...

C40#13. RECALL, Ep48 - NIS Villa, Outdoor Pool (night).
In the pool, Yeon-Joo cries with rage and despair.
Schlaf! She hits the water.

- (Schlaf!) Having endured all these trials, (Schlaf!) all these deaths,
(Schlaf!) and my errors that nearly caused more deaths!!! (Schlaf! Schlaf! Schlaf! Schlaf! Schlaf!) YOU DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO BREAK THIS PROMISE!!!

C40#14. DREAM, Ep45, Yeon-Joo - "Imagination".
- If you had really loved me, you would have understood...
You wouldn't have killed me too, Oh Yeon-Joo.

C40#15. RECALL, Ep50 - Sung-Moo's Office (day).
FFfffff...... Kang Chul vanishes... eliminated from existence... ANNIHILATED.

- (screams in mourning) RAAhhAAhhh, NOOoon!!! ArAhAhh... Boo hoo hoo...

C40#16. RECALL - Doctor Choi's Office (day).
- "BOOM", implosion!

WOOSHH-Kr! The mirror fragments compress into a central point.
Zitz! A flash flashes from the center, like a cathode-ray monitor shutting off, and--
Black-out, absolute darkness...

#41. Myungsei Hospital (late afternoon).

C41#1. Janitor's Closet.
Yeon-Joo's empty and bulging eyes look at the void.
Mouth agape, trickle of drool, body shaken by nervous jolts...
She has lost consciousness and reason, mad in the literal sense.

C41#2. Grand Hall.
- Your time is up. I grant you just a possible change of theme. A robot attack from the future? A proliferation of genetically cloned dinosaurs? An invasion of hostile aliens?
A deregulation of the terrestrial core? Choose, as future main character.

C41#3. Janitor's Closet.
Yeon-Joo is a trembling catatonic statue, incapable of hearing.
Ironically, the Narrator has rendered her unfit to yield to his blackmail.

C41#4. Grand Hall.
Only a long silence answers the Narrator...

- I note that you prefer the current plot.

C41#5. Janitor's Closet.
All will and cognition have left Yeon-Joo.
Her clinical state is the equivalent of a vegetative coma.

~ So be it. May your will be done.

#42. American HQ, White House Situation Room.

Immobilized in time, in an atmosphere of extreme gravity:
The anxious American president, his ministers and generals around the table.
(The real characters used are not always historically exact.)

The main screen displays atomized US bases, and a global attack simulation.
In a yellow frame, the Narrator contemplates the room amused, then...
He disappears. ZEERF... Time restarts.

- Our vectors are slower and interceptable, Mr. President.
But our protocol provides for the use of the preemptive strike.
- And if we don't use it, they will strike first and we will lose everything.
Gentlemen, I would like to assume this decision, but is there another?
I authorize the nuclear strikes on the entire enemy territory.
- We go to DEFCON 1.
- May God forgive us...

#43. Launch Control Center.

A technical room with two officers seated 5 meters from each other.

They listen to their respective telephones.
They note the launch codes that are communicated to them.

They execute their duty with calm and rapidity, despite the enormous stress.

- ... Alpha, One, Delta. Terminated. (hangs up)

They take out their code registers.
They compare the codes with those they noted. Identical!

~ Procedure compliant. (takes out a padlock key)
- Procedure compliant. (takes out a padlock key)

The two officers join, facing a doubly padlocked red box:
"Entry restricted to MCCC and DMCCC on duty."
They unlock the two padlocks of the box and open it.

They take out two launch keys and go sit back down.
They insert the keys in their respective launch boxes, equipped with a red light.

- (on the phone) Codes confirmed. Register Echo Charlie Four.
~ (on the phone) Codes confirmed. Register Delta Beta Five.

The light of the launch boxes turns green.
Voice coming from a speaker:
"Firing order confirmed, immediate execution."

- (holding the key) Execution in 3... 2... 1.

Clock! They turn the keys 90° at the same time!

#44. American Farm (day).

Two children are playing in a meadow while their mother tends to a horse.
A military fence surrounds the neighboring field.
HiiIiii! The horse neighs, sensing danger.
BrRrr... The earth starts to tremble.
Children and mother, ??!

SHRRR... A rocket noise.
A jet of light and vapor comes out of a silo of the military field.
VROOSHH... Terrified, they see an intercontinental missile take off from the silo.

#45. American City, Balcony (day).

People see missiles take off from a nearby military base.

- (fatalistic) Minutemen, they'll take 30 minutes to arrive over there.
And that's the time we have left, before their missiles arrive here.

#46. Russian HQ, National Defense Management Center.

The Russian president is surrounded by his general staff, the defense minister and the diplomacy one.

- All our stations confirm the firing of intercontinental missiles.
Our sovereignty and our population are directly threatened.
- (takes it in) ... Total atomic retaliation. Launch the Sarmats!
Let the population join our numerous shelters.
- Until the end, we will have tried diplomacy.
May God help us...

A distinguished old man, with an obsequious tone.

- (in French, SUBTITLE)
Good evening ladies, good evening misses, good evening gentlemen.

(Goodbye: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77tbrFn4whU )

#49. Seoul.

WooOOOoooOOOoooOOOooo... The Seoul siren howls.

#50. Space.

The terrestrial globe seen from space.
Missiles come out of the stratosphere.
They join hundreds of missiles with incandescent trajectories...
... turning around the globe, destined for the enemy countries.

THE APOCALYPSE IS INEVITABLE!!!

#51. Janitor's Closet (late afternoon).

WooOOOoooOOOoooOOOooo... The Seoul siren howls in the distance.
Yeon-Joo doesn't hear it, in full waking coma, stricto sensu alienated.
She can only tremble in the penumbra, her mind entirely broken.
A tear runs, rather an ocular reflex than sadness...

FLASH, End image: Alienated Yeon-Joo + Narrator + Nuclear explosion background.
